Rebellion Way

passes through DissNorfolk — passing through Diss

The Rebellion Way is a 232-mile (373km) circular cycling route around Norfolk, created by the charity Cycling UK and launched in 2022. It passes directly through Diss, making Park Hotel Diss a convenient and comfortable place to break the journey or base yourself for a section of the ride.

Route overview

Beginning and ending in Norwich, the Rebellion Way loops right around Norfolk on a mix of quiet back roads, byways, cycle paths, bridleways and forest tracks. Along the way it takes in Diss, Thetford, Castle Acre, King’s Lynn, Hunstanton and Sheringham. The route is named after the county’s two famous rebellions — those of the warrior queen Boudicca and the Norfolk landowner Robert Kett.

Who it is suitable for

Designed to be ridden over roughly four to six days, the route is suitable for anyone with reasonable fitness and works with the vast majority of bikes. Norfolk is famously gentle terrain — the route never climbs above around 100m and most of the off-road sections are fast and non-technical, so it’s a great introduction to multi-day, on- and off-road adventuring.

Diss as a stop on the route

Diss sits on the Rebellion Way in the delightful Waveney Valley, just north of the Suffolk border. With historic churches, timber-framed buildings and the Diss Mere, it’s a characterful place to pause — and Park Hotel Diss offers a comfortable overnight stop with free parking and somewhere secure to leave the bikes.

Staying at Park Hotel Diss

Because the route runs through the town, you can ride in and out directly without needing to drive. The hotel’s central position and free parking also make it easy to split the route into segments or use Diss as a base while you explore the surrounding Norfolk and Suffolk countryside by bike.

Useful tips

Download the official GPX file and map from Cycling UK before you set off, check your bike over, and carry water, a basic repair kit and an offline map. The route can be comfortably split in half at King’s Lynn, with onward transport options, if you’d rather ride it in stages.
